Acupuncture Studies in Louisiana - LA

Acupuncture training in Louisiana is fairly rigorous, but any driven, ambitious student can expect to achieve their goals and found a successful career that's built around helping people to live healthier. In Louisiana both MD's and DO's must complete substantial additional training before being issued a license to practice acupuncture in the state. Additional training must be completed through an ACAOM approved program, or an equivalent program recognized as sufficient by the state.

Acupuncturists in Louisiana may also choose to pursue state licensure as an acupuncture assistant. The acupuncture assistant designation is unique to Louisiana, and may prove to be a favorable option for many students. While an acupuncturist assistant is understood to work under the direct supervision of a physician, they are not required to work at the same location and are permitted autonomy to some degree. Training as an acupuncture assistant is considerably less demanding than that of an MD or DO, as it requires just thirty-six months of school.

Louisiana does not require acupuncturists to pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exams in order to gain licensure. Many practitioners, however, find that certifying with the NCCAOM is an excellent way to add credibility to their practice.
