Salary for Medical Assistant in Alabama - AL

A study done in 2009 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the average annual medical assistant salary in Alabama was $24,670, and the average hourly wage was $11.86. There were reportedly 6,680 medical assistants working in Alabama during that year, and some of the most experienced of those professionals were earning in excess of $32,270 a year.  According to this study, employment for medical assistants in Alabama is expected to increase 34% overall between 2008 and 2018.  During this decade, opportunities will be excellent for those with experience and/or certification.

Currently, 65.9% of adult Alabama residents are either overweight or obese, versus 60.8% nationally.  While Alabama has a relatively high rate of obesity, just 41% of adults in this state report being moderately physically active. With the increase in obesity and the lack of physical activity, the demand for medical assistants in Alabama will continue to rise. Increased use of medical assistants will allow doctors to care for more patients and, therefore, stimulate job growth in this field.
