Education, Training and Certification Required for a Pharmacy Technician in Alabama

For aspiring Alabama Pharmacy Technicians it is recommended that you earn at least an Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technology.  Pharmacy Technicians will dispense medications, maintain patient’s record and assist licensed pharmacists in day-to-day routine and duties.  In Alabama, pharmacy technician schools offer programs through both online and campus-based institutions.

As more states start to depend on pharmacy technicians, more Alabama employers are seeking those that have completed formal training and certification.  Students cannot have any prior felony convictions and must have obtained at least a high school diploma.

There are many programs, training and course options for pharmacy technicians to pursue in the state of Alabama.  In addition, they can gain certification through on-the-job training, education or a mixture of the two to work towards certification.  In some cases, many employers will reimburse the cost of examination as an incentive for gaining certification.

Although Alabama does not require that you have certification necessarily, it is highly suggested from most employers that those that have completed some sort of formal education have better job opportunities in the industry.  There are currently no federal requirements regarding training or certification for pharmacy technicians in the state of Alabama.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Pharmacy Techs in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile and Huntsville, Alabama may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Huntsville Hospital, Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, Saint Vincent's Birmingham, and Dekalb Regional Medical Center.
