Alaska Dental Assistants Schools - AK

While obtaining a formal education is not essential to becoming a dental assistant in this state, gaining a certification from an Alaska dental assistant school certainly puts on at an advantage when searching for jobs. The Alaska Dental Practice Act must be followed in terms of training. Radiologic requirements are not in place in Alaska, although taking a class on radiology would certainly beneficial since dental assistants do perform x-rays in some dental practices. Alaska has one school with a CODA approved program for dental assistant.
Since Alaska does not require a dental assistant to be certified to perform basic duties under the supervision of a dentist, there are no special continuing educational requirements. However, if the dental assistant has special certifications, then the number of hours required for maintenance of a certification would depend on the type.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Dental Assistants in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and Sitka, Alaska may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Providence Alaska Medical Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Alaska Regional Hospital, and Central Peninsula Regional Hospital.
