Healthcare Administration Program In Alaska - AK
By an allied health world contributing writerPublished: July 23rd, 2010
The State of Alaska has a number of colleges and universities accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) that offer students the opportunity to attain a healthcare management degree in Alaska. For those interested in healthcare administration programs and attending an on-campus program is not an option, distance education programs that feature online learning and Webinars may enable students to fulfill some, if not most, of the required courses.
A healthcare management degree program prepares students to perform effectively in both private and public healthcare organizations and the required courses of studies prepare healthcare administrators or medical and health services managers to lead both large and small organizations. Critical thinking skills, communications skills, business management discipline, ethics and an awareness of current healthcare issues and challenges are all part of a typical program. While undergraduate degrees are offered, many larger medical facilities look for those with Masters of Healthcare Administration or a similar graduate degree in healthcare management.
Healthcare administrators are responsible for the financial stability of the healthcare facility, as well as the provisioning of medical services. Coursework will provide students with a foundation in accounting, economics, finance, statistics and quantitative methods, evaluation and planning, epidemiology, management principals, information technology for healthcare and marketing. Educational coursework should also cover delivering healthcare to a multicultural population.
