Alaska Pharmacy Tech School – AK
Because Alaska does require ICPT certification, pharmacy technician applicants must adhere to basic requirements before they are even eligible to enroll in online Alaska pharmacy technician schools. These criteria include:
-High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D)
-At lease 18 years old
-Competency in reading, writing and speaking English
-Must have no convictions of felony offenses that involve any aspect of pharmaceutical practices or drug-related activities
Previous knowledge and/or experience in customer service, pharmacy, math, science, cashiering, spelling, business ethics, record-keeping and pharmaceutical terminology are all great assets, but are not mandatory.
Interested student can also look for pharmacy technician training and certification by contacting their local vocational, technical and community colleges, hospitals, military organizations, and even on-line programs are available.
Since Alaska works in conjunction with ICPT standards, pharmacy technicians must complete a total of 20 hours of continuing education in their field every two years prior to recertification. It is through continuing education that pharmacy technicians are able to advance in the field of pharmacy or related occupations. According to the ICPT these hours can be fulfilled through any approved education/training that professionally enhances a pharmacy technician’s knowledge or experience at it relates to their specific duties and perspectives. These topics could include pharmaceutical distribution, patient interaction, labeling, pharmacy law and communications.Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Pharmacy Techs in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and Sitka, Alaska may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Providence Alaska Medical Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Alaska Regional Hospital, and Central Peninsula Regional Hospital.
