The following provides the steps to become a dental assistant in Arizona. Dental assistants who wish to perform coronal polishing procedures must complete the following steps:
  • Pass the Arizona Coronal Polishing exam
  • Submit an Arizona Coronal Polishing Clinical Skills Affidavit to Dental Assisting National Board
  • Receive the Arizona Coronal Polishing Certificate, sent upon complete of the exam and submission of the clinical skills affidavit

Dental assistants who wish to legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiological procedures must hold a current board-approved certificate in radiology. A certificate can be obtained by the following:
  • Pass the Dental Assisting National Board Radiation Health and Safety Exam
  • Pass the Arizona Clinical Radiologic Proficiency Exam
  • Receive the Arizona Radiologic Proficiency Certificate upon successful completion of the above steps
