Arizona Medical Coding Classes - AZ

Many Arizona colleges offer a unique credit transfer system called the Health Professions Career Program. In most cases, if a student wants to transfer credits from a community college certification into a four-year college Bachelors program, they will get credit for blocks of study, rather than simply for piecemeal credits. This terrific system often helps students in Arizona medical billing and coding training programs move through advanced programs more quickly than they otherwise might. A detailed flowchart of how this program works can be found at: http://healthcare.maricopa.edu/pdfDocs/MBtemplate.pdf

For those who live in Arizona who aren't satisfied with the on-site options available, online courses abound.  These days, distance learning degrees are becoming as valuable as traditional ones and, especially in a career like medical billing, completion time and cost may be more a driving factor than the prestige of the degree.

Continuing Education Requirements/Licensure Renewal

No continuing education is required to maintain your ability to work as a biller or coder but, the more medical coding and billing training in Arizona you complete over time, the better prepared for the next step in your career path.

If you do decide become a member of the AMBA, you may choose to pursue the Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist, a voluntary certification. The 16-part exam tests basic and comprehensive knowledge and billers and coders have 45 days to complete it online. The exam costs $395 (which includes up to 2 "retakes") and the recommended study guide can be purchased for $199.  Once you pass the exam, you'll be considered a CMR Specialist, a benefit to your career, but you will also have to complete 15 hours of continuing education each year to maintain those credentials. Information on the education programming can be found here: http://www.ambanet.net/ceu.pdf

This certification is not required at the moment but the AMBA is hopeful that, in time, certifications like this will create an industry-wide standard that tells employers a biller is committed to the profession and current with the most up-to-date expertise.
