Arizona Vet Tech School

Education in Arizona for Veterinary Technicians

All of the Arizona vet tech schools offer associate degrees. Most of the programs have the same general admission requirements, expecting applicants to have a high school diploma and to submit a transcript from the high school they attended. Others have additional requirements such as completing all the general studies courses before admission will be granted. That would include Animal Biology, Animal Science, Chemistry, Composition, Algebra and Technical Writing. Still others have additional requirements like achieving certain scores on the assessment tests that the school administers, requiring proof of medical insurance, proof of immunizations and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Continuing Education

When renewing a credential as a veterinary technician, one is required to have completed 10 hours of continuing education every 2 years. Approved providers of such continuing education includes veterinary technician schools, the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, Association of American Veterinary State Boards ( www.aavsb.org ), any state or national veterinary technician association, or any RACE approved program. When submitting continuing education hours one must submit specific information regarding the program. Included should be the name of the applicant, the title of the course, the date attended, how many credit hours were earned, and sign a statement of authenticity regarding the accuracy of the information provided. Renewal may be waived if a veterinary technician has extenuating circumstances regarding health or if they are serving in the military.

A credential is valid for 2 years, expiring on Feb. 1 of odd numbered years. Renewing the credential also requires submission of a complete application, applicant contact info and agreeing to a statement that states the applicant has not had a conviction within the last 2 years.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Veterinary Techs in Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa and Glendale, Arizona can prepare themselves for careers at some of the best animal hospitals and facilities in the country.
