Professionals and students interested in entering the fast growing field of health care should consider gaining lactation consultant training in Arkansas. To begin, students need to enroll in college-level academic programs online or in Arkansas state colleges and universities. Since lactation consultant degrees do not yet exist, student should strive to earn at least a bachelor degree in a health care related field. Academic coursework within a selected degree program should include instruction in human anatomy and physiology, sociology or cultural anthropology, nutrition, psychology or counseling, infant and child growth and development, and medical terminology.

For those who prefer to gain education from the convenience of home, luckily there are numerous online and distance learning programs that offer certificates of completion, diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, and even doctorate degrees in health care. In addition, students need to receive hands-on clinical practical experience that is specifically geared toward human lactation and breastfeeding. Many times clinical experience is offered within academic programs. However, internships, job shadowing, volunteer activities, and paid positions where students can interact with breastfeeding families in a health care setting are all great ways to achieve clinical experience as lactation consultants. Students are also encouraged to locate Arkansas schools and programs that provide preparation for lactation consultant certification.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Lactation Consultants in Little Rock, Fayetteville and Jonesboro, Arkansas may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Arkansas Regional Medical Center, Saint Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, Baptist Health Medical Center, and White County Medical Center North.
