Becoming a Dentist in Mississippi - MS

Dentistry is an exciting career with a promising outlook. According to the Mississippi Hospital Association, there are many positions for dentists that are expected to become open in the near future due to the imminent retirement of existing dentists. Furthermore, as baby boomers continue to age, the demand for dentists is expected to increase. It’s no wonder that more and more Mississippi students are looking into how to become dentists in their home state.

In Mississippi, dentists must graduate from a dental school that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. This specialized dental training is taken after an aspiring dentist first earns a pre-dental bachelor degree. Mississippi also requires that all would-be dentists pass both written and practical examinations given by the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners. Candidates who wish to become licensed Mississippi dentists must submit a completed application along with a fee of $250 for licensure, transcripts of all colleges and universities attended - including dental school, and a written history accounting for all professional, and personal or community-based volunteering done during the past 10 years. Aspiring dentists must have their national dental board scores mailed directly to the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners. After receiving all completed application materials, the board will schedule the state’s jurisprudence exam within 90 days.
