How to Become an Ultrasound Tech in Kentucky – KY

Sonography training in Kentucky consists of enrolling in a college or university program (or online distance learning program) that offers ultrasound technician training. Most programs offer degrees such as an associate of applied science, although some will offer diplomas or certificates in diagnostic sonography. Once you get into sonographer training, you will discover that there are many jobs to be had in this broad field, beyond general diagnostic sonography. Many alternatives, such as pediatric or fetal sonography, cardiac sonography, and OB/GYN sonography, exist for those who are interested in ultrasound technician training. Programs usually take from one to two years to complete, depending upon the school chosen.

Courses that you will most likely find in any general diagnostic sonography program include ultrasound physics, abdominal sonography, basic vascular techniques, obstetrical sonography, pelvic sonography, legal issues and ethics, and a clinical practicum. During the clinical portion of your training, you will work in a real-life setting under the guidance and supervision of an ultrasound technician, and have the opportunity to work on patients and perform the skills and techniques you have learned in your sonography training in the classroom. Upon graduation, jobs in Kentucky are plentiful for diagnostic medical sonographers and are expected to remain that way.
