Becoming a Midwife in Kentucky – KY

Midwifery training in Kentucky is both intense and rewarding. The information you have learned thus far will become extremely important as you begin the clinical training portion of midwifery. Most schools will require you to work directly with a nurse-midwife for 4-10 months during clinical training. This means that you will be on-call for birthing, you will take part in prenatal examinations, you will learn how to help patients relax and use their Lamaze techniques, as well how to diagnosis and treat pregnancy-related and woman-related health conditions. This is truly one of the more interesting aspects of career training because you are one step closer to getting into the real world profession of midwifery.

Those interested in knowing how to become a midwife in Kentucky will find it worth noting that after training is completed, the next step is certification. The American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) is a certifying organization responsible for issuing the Certified Nurse-Midwife credential. The AMCB test is oriented towards proving that both your education and training have made you suitable to the profession.

There is no doubt that this career field is growing in Kentucky. In fact, it has been steadily growing for thousands of years. But in the world today, where there are new alerts and studies done everyday on the impact of medications used during labor and delivery, more and more women are returning to the natural environment of home delivery and birthing center-assisted delivery. According to the Department of Labor, there appears to be an extreme shortage in the midwifery field, especially with a projected growth in the nursing field of 21% to 35% of 10 years. That should leave a great deal of room for new midwives to make their entrance.
