Biomedical Equipment Technician Training in Arizona – AZ

Graduating from biomedical technician programs in Arizona will prepare students to take BMET certification exams to become nationally certified. Arizona does not require its biomedical engineering technicians to become certified, but many employers look upon professional certification as a standard of quality training in a job applicant.

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) offers certification to graduates as either a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES), or Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES). To qualify for any of these certifications, you must have at least an associate degree in biomedical academics and two years of full-time work as a BMET, or an associate degree in electronics technology and three years of full-time BMET work experience.  Certification may also be granted to individuals with four years of full-time BMET work experience and no degree.

The BMET career path in Arizona would likely be: studying for an associate degree in biomedical engineering technology, working for two years as a full-time BMET, and taking the certification exam. The BMET certification exams cover everything you’ve learned in your BMET training program, from anatomy to physiology to electricity, electronics, medical equipment problem-solving and public safety in health care facilities. Tests are offered twice yearly. While there are no testing centers in Arizona at this time, special dispensations may be made to either take the test in a nearby state or have a special testing center created.
