Biomedical Equipment Technician Training in California – CA

BMET certification programs in California, according to the California Medical Instrumentation Association (CMIA), are best suited for candidates who have good reasoning abilities, can solve problems, enjoy challenges, and have excellent communication skills. Aspiring BMETs should also be self-motivated, dedicated to customer service, and able to work either independently or as part of a team.

Certification is not mandatory in California but those who want to try for more advanced jobs later in their career may choose to take the examination, offered by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). BMET certification tests are given in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In California, the BMET career path begins with a BMET-I, which is the entry-level position for graduates who have just completed their training. A BMET-II has at least a two-year degree and an average of eight years of experience. A BMET-III has at least a two-year degree and an average of 12 years of experience in the field. Beyond that, positions include Equipment Specialist, for BMETs with special training and certification; and BMET Supervisor, for certified BMETs with 13 or more years of experience. As you can see, the possibilities for advancement in the field of biomedical engineering technology are almost endless in the state of California.
