Biomedical Equipment Technician Training in Indiana – IN

Education is the first step towards your career as a biomedical equipment technician, but you’ll also need practical knowledge of the equipment you’ll be working with. Biomedical equipment technicians in Indiana don’t need to obtain a state license in order to work, but most employers ask for some type of credential or certification when hiring.

The best way to get that knowledge and credentialing is to volunteer or intern at a hospital or clinic with a wide array of biomedical equipment and a supervisor willing to help you learn the ropes. Over several months of training, you’ll learn how to install, operate, test, and fix all kinds of equipment, how hospitals and other medical facilities function, and how doctors and nurses use medical equipment to diagnose and treat patients.

The best BMETs, however, are more than just technicians. Many BMETs are responsible for training non-technician colleagues how to use hospital equipment, making teaching skills especially valuable. Even if you’re not training others, communication is an essential skill: BMETs must be able to explain problems with medical equipment or maintenance instructions to fellow healthcare employees.

Solid education and training are sure to open doors for you at places like Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Community Hospital East in Indianapolis, and Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
