Biomedical Equipment Technician Training in Kentucky – KY

Once you’ve gained a background in medicine and technology via coursework, you’ll need to get some hands-on experience with the equipment you’ll be working with. Biomedical equipment technician training in Kentucky typically takes place at hospitals and other large healthcare institutions where you have access to the range of equipment you need to become familiar with while being supervised by an experienced technician.

You’ll need to undergo a few months of training, during which time you’ll learn the ins and outs of medical equipment technology, from how to install and operate machines to what types of conditions each piece of equipment is used for. At the end of your training period, some—though not all—institutions offer a certificate or credential.

Certification isn’t required by the state of Kentucky, but most employers prefer it; however, hiring requirements often vary by workplace. Many laboratories, for example, prefer to hire technicians who have been certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology, an organization that seeks to uphold professional standards for laboratory equipment technicians.

When combined with an excellent education, good training will help you find opportunities at institutions like the Owensboro Medical Health System, Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, and Norton Hospital.
