Biomedical Equipment Technician Training in Louisiana – LA

Individuals may opt to pursue BMET certification in Louisiana electively.  Earning certification formally demonstrates their deep understanding and knowledge of both the conceptual and practical components of the field.  Moreover, it conveys individuals’ aptitude to practice successfully within the health care environment as professionals who possess the highest level of competency.

Through examinations offered by the Board of Examiners for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC) certifies BMETs in one of three distinctions:

  1. Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)
  2. Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES)
  3. Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES)

Individuals may qualify for the certification examination in one of three ways.  They may have completed an Associate degree in biomedical equipment training as well as two full-time years of BMET experience; earned an Associate degree in electronics technology and have three full-time years of BMET experience; or have worked four years as a full-time BMET.

The ICC Web site provides access to the downloadable “Application for Examination for Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician, Radiology Equipment Specialist and Laboratory Equipment Specialist.”  This completed paperwork may be submitted with the required processing fee.  Individuals must renew their certification every three years, by which time individuals must also have completed several credits of ongoing education.
