Biomedical Equipment Technician School in Florida – FL

The role of biomedical equipment technician (BMET) is an essential one in the American healthcare system: BMETs keep the equipment we use to diagnose and treat health problems up and running. And with technological advances being made every day, BMETs are sure to be vital to healthcare for years to come.

Since biomedical equipment technicians (BMETs) work with a wide array of medical technologies—everything from defibrillators to laser scalpels—in a variety of situations, it’s important for aspiring BMETs to start off with a basic knowledge of science and technology, with especial focus in areas related to medicine, like biology and physiology, and technology, like programming and engineering. Focusing on a particular area of medicine or type of technology can also help you distinguish yourself from other candidates.

Most biomedical equipment technicians in Florida hold a bachelor’s or associate’s degree from an accredited school. Fortunately, from colleges to vocational institutions, there are a number of biomedical equipment technician schools in Florida. The highest standard of accreditation is granted by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET), though other recognized accreditation associations also exist. If you’d prefer, you can also study online in conjunction with a training or internship program at your local healthcare institution.

Education is important, but it’s not enough: once you’ve obtained a degree, you’ll need to get some hands-on experience with the types of equipment you’ll be working with. Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities to do so in Florida.
