Currently there are 8 different educational pathways to meet eligibility requirements in for applying for a CMT and CMP credential.  There is a chart of qualifications listed on the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMT) website.  In general, 500 educational hours earned online or through a California massage school are required in order to apply for a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) credential, and 250 educational hours are required for a Certified Massage Practitioner (CMP) credential.  In addition to education, the California massage therapy schools must be accredited by the state of California or the US Department of Education.  There may be special situations that would be approved by the CAMT Board, but this would need to be discussed with advisory personnel.  www.camtc.org/FAQ/mtfaq.htm

Continuing Educational Requirements for Massage Therapists in the State of California

Since California has recently signed into law allowing the state to certify massage therapists, there are no continuing educational requirements in place at this time.  One would need to continually check the California Massage Therapy Council's website to maintain all current information regarding continuing education.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Massage Therapists in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco, California may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Laguna Honda Hospital, Community Regional Medical Center, L.A. County & USC Medical Center, and Huntington Hospital.

We currently have no schools offerings in CA for this career path at this time. (Check back with us)
