How to Become a Certified Personal Trainer in California

1.  Take courses relevant to a career in fitness.  This includes kinesiology, anatomy, and exercise physiology.  Personal trainers need to have an extensive knowledge of how the body moves and responds to exercise.

2.  Become certified in CPR.

3.  Choose a path to achieve personal trainer certification.  This can include a California personal trainer certification course or attending a personal trainer school, of which there are many in California.  Whichever you choose, the certification must be from a nationally recognized fitness organization or education facility.

4.  Search for a job at a large gym.  This is the easiest way to start in the personal training industry and will allow you to gain experience and meet prospective clients.  Large gym chains in California include 24 Hour Fitness, California Family Fitness and Bally Total Fitness.

5.  Continue to gain clients and consider pursuing your own personal training business.  Many California personal trainers also have mobile gym equipment so that they can meet clients who desire privacy or who are pressed for time.
