Cardiac diagnostic medical sonography training in Idaho provides students with the educational framework they need to become proficient at directing high frequency sound waves to examine and evaluate the heart. Students who successful are those with superior interpersonal communication and critical thinking skills and also who possess good hand-eye coordination.

When exploring options, it is recommended that a school be chosen that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. A cardiac sonography education program frequently is an associate degree program, available in Idaho from campus-based and online learning schools. Prerequisites for diagnostic medical sonography training typically include courses in English and English composition, biology, anatomy, chemistry, physiology, algebra, psychology, physics or radiographic physics.  Courses in medical terminology and the principles of patient care are also required.

When students reach the specialized part of the program, courses cover pathophysiology, comparative sectional imaging, sonographic physics and instrumentation, cardiac sonography, the cardiac scanning lab, Doppler procedures and the Doppler scanning lab. Additional courses cover special sonographic procedures, such as pediatric sonography and obstetrics and gynecology sonography. Beginning, intermediate and advanced clinical experience in medical cardiac sonography is provided for students as well under the supervision of a qualified professional cardiac sonographer.
