Cardiac sonographer training in North Carolina usually begins with enrolling in programs at cardiac sonography schools that offer education in cardiac sonography. These programs usually take 24 months to complete and result in the earning of an associate degree. From here, cardiac sonographers may choose to become certified through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), although it is not mandatory in North Carolina to do so.

Found in colleges, universities and online, cardiac sonographer training in North Carolina will prepare you for many echocardiographer and cardiac sonography positions throughout the state. Most employers prefer that the cardiac sonographers they hire be graduates of a college program approved and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Classes you can expect to take in a cardiac sonographer training program include sonography principles, instrumentation, medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, disease processes, psychology, sociology, and the use of various diagnostic pieces of cardiac sonography equipment. Furthermore, many programs offer students the opportunity to work in this discipline in a practical sense, in real echocardiograph labs across the state of North Carolina. After training, you may opt to take the RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) examinations offered by the ARDMS.
