The first step to building your career will be to complete cardiac sonographer training in Utah. You can do this with a few different options. For an entry level position in Utah, you will need to have at least a 2-year associate degree in diagnostic cardiac sonography, although there are bachelor degree programs available also.

The first year of studies generally consists of general education credits and basic medical studies. The second year will take you into elements of a more technical nature, such as invasive and noninvasive cardiac sonography. In Utah, most students begin by obtaining an Associate of Science degree or an Associate of Applied Science degree with the following course schedule:

After completing all program studies, cardiac sonography students in Utah are directed to complete an extern-based clinical training program. With most schools, this on-the-job training lasts between 4 and 6 weeks; however, each individual school sets these requirements.

One thing that echocardiographers in Utah should consider is certification. Because you are not required to have a state professional license to practice, most employers in Utah will be looking for professional validation from outside credentialing organizations, such as the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
