How to Become a Dental Assistant in Colorado

A dental assistant in the state of Colorado may perform basic sup¬portive dental procedures speci¬fied by the state dental practice act while under the supervision of a licensed dentist without undergoing any specific training or education. Dental assistants are not licensed professionals in most states. However, dental assistants who are in a setting where they administer anesthesia/sedation and/or nitrous oxide/oxygen are required to become CPR certified. Dental assistants in Colorado who wish to perform expanded functions or operate x-ray equipment must be at least 18 years of age and complete additional education and certification requirements as set by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and approved by the Colorado State Board of Dentistry.
