Find the right school for you
Colorado’s Board of Nursing Home Administrators requires that all applicants for the position of long term care administrator hold some sort of degree. Long term care education in Colorado mandates that you have at least an associate degree in nursing home administration or nursing with two years’ long term care experience; or a bachelor degree in one of the following disciplines: business administration, public health administration, health administration, health care organizations and systems, or nursing. Alternatively, you can possess a master degree in long term care management and become state licensed.
One other option that will help you to become licensed as a long term care administrator in the state of Colorado is to pursue a master of business administration with a concentration in health care administration. This is an option that is becoming popular with students who already possess bachelor degrees in business or nursing. This program usually takes about two years to complete, or 48 credit hours. Classes are usually available both in-person and through distance learning online. This track emphasizes the continuum of care involved in long term care management and administration. No matter what degree you graduate with, you must still pass the Colorado Board examination and the national examination given by the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Long-Term Care Administrators. These exams should be easily passed after graduating with one of these degrees in health or long term care administration.
