In the medical transcription profession, income is dictated by several factors including rate pay per line, speed, accuracy, experience, and account type. In general, recent graduates can expect to be started on clinic accounts, which are less complex in nature, as they learn how to increase their speed and maintain their accuracy. More experienced medical transcriptionists, however, may find themselves working on acute care and/or radiology accounts, where more in-depth medical knowledge is required.
It is important to recognize that all of these factors can influence your income as a medical transcriptionist in Colorado. Some of the most experienced MTs have managed to increase their speed to an incredible 250 lines per hour while earning anywhere from $0.08 to $0.10 per line, making for an average hourly wage between $20 and $25 per hour. So, the keys to increasing your financial potential in this profession are experience and practice.
