One of the hot topics in the healthcare industry currently is the push to move to an electronic medical record keeping and charting system. There are many challenges in this pursuit and professionals that have both the understanding of technology development and the actual practices within the industry are in high demand. These specialists practice nursing informatics.
This profession is expected to grow much faster than average according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. As the US healthcare system transitions into an updated technology platform, professionals that can work hand-in-hand with healthcare professionals and IT professionals, will be at an all time high.

Gaining Colorado nurse informatics certification is a process of both education and practice. These professionals must understand health information thoroughly but also need a keen awareness of the day-to-day practice within the nursing profession. If you think this may be a good career choice for you the first logical step would be to get a “bird's eye view,” so to speak, of nursing through a job shadowing experience. Then, enroll in nursing school. Although there are several ways in which you can become a nurse it is important to realize that you will eventually pursue an advanced degree and so your most direct route would be a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Once you have completed nursing school you will be eligible to sit for your licensing examination.

An advanced program in Nursing Informatics will allow you the gain the certification necessary to work in this specialized and important field. You must first gain a Master’s degree in Nursing Informatics and then pass the NCLEX-Nursing Informatics examination. Once you are working in the nursing informatics field in Colorado you will also need to complete 150 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain current Colorad nursing informatics certification and stay on top of the changes and important trends in the informatics field.
