How to become a Personal Trainer in the state of Colorado

Though the profession of personal training is not regulated by the state of Colorado, meaning that no specific license is required in order to practice, specific employers may require Colorado personal trainer certification granted by a national certifying agency.
There are several national certifying agencies.  The most respected national certifying agencies for personal trainers are accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies or NCCA.  A national certification by an agency that is accredited by the NCCA ensures the personal trainer that s/he holds a credential that is recognized nationally and indicates that s/he has completed both educational and field training that has prepared the person well for a career in personal training.  Common certifications in the area of personal training are Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT), or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Health clubs and other fitness facilities also are not specifically regulated by the state of Colorado; however the Consumer Protection Act specifically addresses health club membership sales.
