Medical Assistant Training

The vast majority of Medical Assistants are employed within physician offices as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Additional healthcare settings include: hospitals, offices of other medical practitioners, outpatient clinics, and higher education facilities such as colleges and universities.  Medical Assistants are expected to undertake administrative tasks as well as clinical duties.  Specific clerical responsibilities include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, billing insurance, filing medical records, and bookkeeping.   Examples of clinical tasks performed by Medical Assistants include preparing exam rooms, taking patient histories, obtaining and preparing lab samples, taking vitals, and sterilizing instruments.  According to the 2009 Certified Medical Assistant Salary Survey, it was estimated that 70% of a Medical Assistant’s day is devoted to clinical duties while the remainder of their time is spent on managerial and clerical tasks.
