The integration of technology into our everyday world has been a long process but overall one that has been generally well accepted across the board. In the medical arena the transition into technology based at the level of direct patient care has been a slower moving process. One reason for this is the lack of thorough understanding that traditional IT personnel have of the processes in the unique environments of medical offices, hospitals and emergency rooms. In order to bridge the gap and smooth the transition, professionals that understand both direct patient care and technology are needed. Specially trained individuals for this specific role are nurse informatics.

A Connecticut nursing informatics certification can be gained in a variety of ways. Although there are many correct ways to become a nurse informatics specialist, the most direct pathway would be to first gain a bachelor’s degree in nursing and then a Master’s degree in Nurse Informatics. Ultimately you will gain a RN License with a specialty Nursing Informatics Certification.

The demand for quality professionals in this area is at an all time high and is expected to continue to grow, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. With the current push from the federal government to transition to electronic medical records from traditional paper records, these professionals are in desperate need. The need for these professionals will not soon diminish either since the communication and work between nursing staff and IT professionals will have to continue.
