Connecticut Physical Therapy Assistant Education

Connecticut is an outstanding state to pursue a career as a physical therapy assistant.  Not only is Connecticut home to some prestigious Universities, but also it is home to Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, which was rated by the US News & World Report as among the “nation's best”.  Being a physical therapy assistant on a rehabilitation team at this hospital would be a rewarding career choice.

The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) is an accrediting agency that establishes standards for physical therapy assistant (PTA) schools in Connecticut.  In particular, these programs prepare the student with the skills necessary to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination for physical therapy assistants (PTA).  As of this date, there is one CAPTE (Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education) accredited physical therapy assistant program in the state of Connecticut.  What is unique about this program is that it is a consortium design.  This means that 6 of Connecticut's community colleges have joined together to encompass the physical therapy assistant program.  The advantage is that the clinical based internships are provided across the state with this program.  As a result, more opportunities are available to the physical therapy assistant student.  The academic portion is based at one community college.  Completion of this particular program awards the student with an Associate in Science degree.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Physical Therapy Assistants in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven and Stamford, Connecticut may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Masonicare Health Center, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, New Haven Hospital, and St. Vincent's Medical Center.
