Certified training programs in Delaware teach medical assistants how to perform clinical duties, such as taking patient histories, preparing patients for examination, handling lab specimens, and infection control. Medical assistants also learn administrative skills, such as authorizing drug refills, scheduling appointments, and using the computer system to enter medical coding and billing information.

Medical assisting training in Delaware can be accomplished through community colleges, online schools, distance-learning schools, and technical institutes. The one-year programs lead to a certificate of achievement, while two-year programs lead to an associate’s degree. Almost all programs offer an externship in a clinic, hospital, or medical office that provides supervised work experience. In addition, you are eligible to take certification exams from AAMA or AMT only if you complete a certified training program. This is important, because employers give preference to Certified Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistants (AMT).
