Medical transcriptionists in Delaware are very well paid. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the average annual medical transcription salary in Delaware is about $34,840, making for an average hourly wage of $16.75.  While you can feel comfortable with this level of income, you should also recognize what longevity and years of experience can do for you financially. During 2009, the highest paid medical transcriptionists in Delaware were reported to have made about $43,060, about 20% more than the state’s overall average.

Your years of professional experience as a medical transcriptionist are definitely going to count towards your income predominantly because most MTs are paid on production. Not only does your experience entitle you to more pay per line of transcription, but it also means that you have probably found ways in which to be more productive. On average, most recent graduates can expect to type straight transcription at between 85 and 100 lines per hour; whereas experienced MTs may type between 250 and 300 lines per hour, doubling and sometimes even tripling their starting income.

You should also expect that the introduction of voice recognition technology will not only change the face of your profession, but also that it will change your pay scale. With this new technology, many standard transcriptionists have now become medical editors; essentially editing medical records rather than typing them. In theory, it is quicker to edit than to type, so medical transcriptionists in Delaware can definitely learn to master this software and enhance their financial potential.

Average MT salaries within Delaware:

  • Wilmington: $36,860
  • Dover: $31,650
