Educational Requirements for Veterinary Technicians in Delaware
Veterinary technicians must be licensed in order to work in the state of Delaware. Within the state, Veterinary Technicians make an average annual salary of $33,000, close to the national average for this profession. Positions in Veterinary Technology are expected to increase by over 40% across the United States through the year 2016.
Because Delaware requires all Veterinary Technicians to be licensed, one must graduate from an AVMA-accredited (or Board approved) program through online or campus based Delaware vet tech schools, and take the VTNE. Licenses need to be renewed every two years. Once licensed, Veterinary Technicians in the state must also fulfill Continuing Education requirements to maintain their license. 12 hours of approved Continuing Education credits must be completed in the two years prior to renewal.
Documentation of this Continuing Education must be submitted to the Board with your renewal form. Continuing Education credits must come from one of the following sources to be eligible to fulfill the requirements: the AVMA, AVMA-accredited schools, Federal/State/County Veterinary Associations, the USDA, NAVTA-approved online continuing education, Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) courses, government agencies, university course work (with prior Board approval), and other forms of CE which must be approved by the Board prior to taking the courses.
