Dental Hygienist School in Manitoba – MB
The College of Dental Hygienists of Manitoba is the regulating agency for dental hygienists practicing within the Canadian province. The College maintains four registers of dental hygienists in Manitoba: practicing, non-practicing, student and temporary. Regardless of a dental hygienist’s status, it is a safe bet that he or she went to one of the dental hygienist schools in Manitoba approved by the College. These schools bestow a degree, certificate or diploma upon graduates after three to four years of study are completed. At this time in Manitoba, there are no schools that offer bachelor degree programs in dental hygiene. All programs earn the graduate a certificate or diploma.
After graduating from dental hygiene school, students must take and pass the National Dental Hygiene Certification Examination. This national certification is a requirement not only to work in dental hygiene in Manitoba, but in most other Canadian provinces as well. Manitoba allows its practicing dental hygienists to appear on several different rosters, based on additional education they may have. These include the Extended Practice Roster, Local Anesthetic Roster, Orthodontic Roster, and the Restorative Roster. In this way, all dental hygienists published on the College’s register may have their specialty listed for the ease of patients searching for them.
