Michigan Dental Hygienist Continuing Education Requirements

The initial license of a dental hygienist in Michigan is only good until the next expiration date of your profession, anywhere from four months to one year. After your first renewal, your license will be good for three years. You will receive a renewal application 45-60 days prior to the licenses expiration. The state of Michigan does not accept requests to renew your license early. You can renew your dental hygienist license online through the Michigan Department of Community Health. In addition to the license renewal, a dental hygienist must also complete 36 hours of continuing education through courses or programs approved by the board, with at least 12 of those hours in programs related to clinical issues. All continuing education must be documented.
