The Nebraska Dental Hygienists’ Association offers a listing of accredited schools in the state and says to become a registered dental hygienist (RDH); you must finish at least two years of college. You may graduate from either a junior/community college with an associate’s degree or from a four-year bachelor’s degree program or a master’s degree program in dental hygiene. The master’s degree programs are for those who wish to teach, do research on dentistry or work in a school health program or a clinical practice. Nebraska Dental Hygienist Continuing Education Requirements

To maintain your dental hygiene license, you must take at least 30 hours of continuing education credits every two years and submit the names of all courses to the state with your renewal application.

To extend your set of responsibilities, you can learn to administer local anesthesia (while under the indirect supervision of your dentist). For this, you must take a board-approved course and apply for a permit.
