Dental hygiene programs typically will take two years to complete and will result in an associate’s degree. New Mexico Dental Hygienists Continuing Education

A dental hygiene license is renewed triennially through the New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care. The renewal application will be sent out 2-3 months prior to the expiration of your license. The requirements for renewal are:
  • A completed renewal application
  • Payment of the required fees
  • 45 hours of continuing education, including a course in infection control
  • Proof of current CPR in the past 12 months of the year of renewal
Dental hygienists in New Mexico may also wish to apply for a Local Anesthesia Certificate in order to further their education and expand their job prospects.
