The first thing that you should do to begin a career in dentistry is choose from one of the dental schools in California. As dental hygiene, or lack thereof, often indicates other major medical health issues, dentists in California are actively involved in abating neglected dental care through preventative treatment. In order to do this, dentists in California must spend many years being appropriately educated.

Once you have decided on a dentist school in California, you will need to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT), which is administered by the American Dental Association (ADA) prior to admission. The DAT is a competency testing measure designed to ensure that students are prepared and ready for entry into a dental school. In order to take the DAT test, you must have at least one year of collegiate education. It is worth mentioning, however, that most students in California have their bachelor’s in hand before taking this test.
