Education is the cornerstone on which you build success in your future career as a dentist in Colorado. Because dental professionals in Colorado have a vested interest in maintaining the dental health of their patients, securing a solid educational background is the key to becoming a reputable, knowledgeable dentist.

The first step to enrolling in one of the dental schools in Colorado is taking and passing the DAT examination, otherwise known as the Dental Admissions Test. This test was created to ensure a baseline of general dentistry knowledge for all students interested in pursuing a career in the dental field. Before you can take this test, you need to have an associate or bachelor degree in general studies. Keep in mind, though, that because the level of difficulty of the DAT test is high, most students in Colorado do not take the DAT test until they have achieved a 4-year bachelor degree.

To give you an idea of what you will be studying, the courses listed below are part of most dental degree programs in Colorado.

  • Introduction to Dentistry
  • Principles of Dentistry
  • First Aid, CPR, and Safety Measures
  • Dental Procedures
  • Dental Radiography

In Colorado, both the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees are awarded upon educational completion. While these degrees may sound different, they are actually the same thing, and both are acceptable for licensure in Colorado.

By making the decision to attend a campus-based dentist school in Arizona, future dentists in Denver, Colorado Springs, Aurora, and Lakewood, Colorado will find themselves highly tuned for lucrative dental careers and associations with some of the most recognized healthcare facilities in the state, including Memorial Hospital Central, Penrose Hospital, and Denver Health Medical Center.
