Dentists’ careers start by entering programs offered by the accredited dental schools located in Delaware. You may have a few to choose from, but it is important to select the program that you feel is most in line with personal and professional ambitions.

Once you have decided upon a dental school in Delaware, you will need to take the DAT test, otherwise known as the Dental Admissions Test. This test is a cumulative testing of both knowledge and skill to determine your level of preparedness for a dental degree program. Before you can take this test, you need at least a 2-year associate degree. However, most dental students in Delaware complete their bachelor’s degree before even attempting to take and pass the DAT test.

Each dental school in Delaware lays out its own curriculum, but some of the classes you will most likely be taking include:

  • Body Systems and Functions
  • Oral Anatomy
  • Oral Radiology Basics
  • Dental Office Emergencies
  • Dental Science

Once you have completed a dental program, you will be awarded with either the DMD degree, Doctor of Dental Medicine, or the DDS degree, Doctor of Dental Surgery. While the language may seem different, these are actually equivalent degrees.

With the selection of a campus-based dentistry program in Delaware, aspiring dentists in Wilmington, Dover, and Newark, Delaware will be well prepared for lucrative careers and professional associations with some of the most recognized healthcare facilities in the state, including Christiana Hospital, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, and Kent General Hospital.
