Find the right school for you
Dental schools in Idaho typically award either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree or a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. While these degrees may sound completely different, they are actually equivalent in stature, and either degree is acceptable pursuant to a career in dentistry in the state of Idaho.
Once you have decided upon a dental school in Idaho, you will need to take the Dental Admissions Test, also referred to as the DAT. This is a comprehensive test used to determine the level of fitness and readiness of students interested in beginning a dental degree program. In Idaho, you are required to have an associate degree or higher before taking the DAT test. It is worth noting; however, that this test is extremely in-depth, and most students don’t take it until they have their bachelor’s degree.
Some of the courses that you may be taking as part of a dental degree program in Idaho include:
- Oral Anatomy and Pathology
- Dental Pharmacology
- Dental Office Administration
- Clinical Dental Procedures
- Dental Equipment and Surgical Materials
Keep in mind that in order to renew your dental license in Idaho, you must have current CPR certification and 30-contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
By participating in a campus-based dental program, aspiring dentists in Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Meridian, Idaho can look forward to exciting careers in association with some of the largest healthcare facilities in the state, including Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center.
