Find the right school for you
Dental schools in Massachusetts select top graduates of four year colleges and universities for admission and the competition is intense. Although a specific major is not required, students must take prerequisites that including biology, higher mathematics, chemistry and physics and the higher the GPA, the better the chance to be admitted to the school of choice. A typical Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) program in Massachusetts is over four years and consists of didactic or lectures and seminars, patient simulation, and a clinical practicum in a group practice, rotations, or in a community service setting. Candidates should apply as early as possible since most schools conduct early admissions.
Here are some typical requirements:
- Students must take the Dental Admissions Test or DAT.
- Students must submit an official transcript in sealed and signed envelopes from all post-secondary education completed.
- Three letters of recommendation (in English) must be provided; usually one must be from a department chairperson or a faculty member.
- A curriculum vitae, including a list of academic honors, military service with dates (if applicable), and extracurricular activities.
- A personal statement, where the student has the opportunity to communicate why they want to enter the dental profession.
