A career in dentistry offers a two-fold advantage:  It provides ample opportunity to fulfill a social commitment to helping others while also providing a stable and sustainable lifestyle. If this career is attractive to you, you’re in luck as Minnesota is home to some of the most respected dental schools in the United States.

Dental school in Minnesota involves four years of post-graduate education with a curriculum that includes sciences courses such as human anatomy, oral anatomy, neuroanatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, physiology, and pathology. The dentistry curriculum covers topics such as operative dentistry, oral diagnosis, pediatric dentistry, anesthesia, periodontology, oral radiology, biomaterials, fixed and removable prosthodontics and managing a dental practice. A clinical practicum is also an important part of all programs offered by dental schools in Minnesota.

To be admitted to dental school in Minnesota, an overall GPA of 2.70 from an accredited college or university is required. However, keep in mind that admission is very competitive and most students attain much higher GPAs. In addition, applicants are required to take the Dental Aptitude Test given by the American Dental Association.  Competitive candidates will be invited to a personal interview by their prospective dental school admissions board as well.

For those who are strongly considering practicing dentistry in the rural areas of Minnesota, some dentistry schools offer special programs designed to encourage individuals to commit to practicing in a rural area and offer a variety of incentives for doing so.
