The average patient care technician salary can range widely. Those patient care techs who practice as dialysis techs, make an average of $26,368 per year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle 50% of these professionals make between $23,000 and $31,000 annually. Those who are already established as health care professionals, such as registered nurses (RNs) who also have a dialysis tech certification, can earn much higher salaries.

Oftentimes individuals start out as dialysis techs and later go on to get their LPN, RN, or another health care degree. It is also common for those already established in the health care field, such as nurses, to attend a weekend or weeklong workshop to attain their dialysis tech status. This way they can specialize in dialysis patients if there is a need at their job. Those who have no prior health care experience may attend a yearlong training program so they have a good foundational as well as practical knowledge of this field before entering it.
