Washington, DC Certified Nurse Assistant Training Programs
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), sometimes known as a nurse’s aide, is a certified healthcare professional who is supervised by a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN). A CNA or certified nurses’ aide assists patients with such everyday tasks as bathing, toileting, grooming, eating and mobility.
The District of Columbia Health Care Facilities Division approves CNA training in the District of Columbia and is more extensive than in some states. An approved nurse aide training program curriculum in D.C. must encompass 120 hours of training, with 45 hours of classroom instruction, 30 hours of clinical laboratory practicums and 45 hours of nursing home practicums.
Approved nurse aide training in Washington, DC is designed to prepare students to communicate effectively and interact with residents, families, and other members of the health team, while demonstrating sensitivity to a patient’s emotional, social, and mental health needs. Students will learn the proper way to assist patients with self-care, while promoting and encouraging the patient’s independence. The curriculum in the District of Columbia will help graduates understand how best to ensure and protect a patient’s rights and how to observe, monitor, report, and document the conditions and changes relating to the patients' physical and psycho-social well-being.
During the practicum portion of the training, students in the District of Columbia work directly with patients under qualified direct supervision to put classroom education into practice and develop their practical skills.
