Obtain Medical Billing and Coding Certification

Once a student from DC has completed their course of schooling by an accredited organization, the next thing for the student to do is to prove themselves worthy and accountable to the medical billing and coding profession. A DC student can do this by getting certified with The American Academy of Professional Coders, or AAPC.

The American Academy of Professional Coders is an organization that specializes in ensuring that a student who has been successfully educated in medical billing and coding is ready to enter the workforce in Washington DC. The AAPC does this by providing examinations and respective certifications to those students who are most competent.

There are several different types of medical billing and coding certification in Washington DC that can be obtained from the AAPC; however the CPC certification, or Certified Professional Coder, is the most entry-level type of certification and is highly recommended for recently graduated students.

Without this type of certification backing, it can be increasingly difficult for a medical biller or coder in the DC area to find work.

If a student in DC has surpassed the entry-level Washington DC medical billing certificate and is ready to be considered as a professional in a specialty of medical billing and coding, the AAPC has certifications for that level of competency, as well. 

The AAPC estimates that DC students who hold one of their certifications make approximately 20% more each year than professionals without their certification. This is another good reason for a DC student to make sure he or she has medical billing and coding certification in Washington DC.
