How to Become a Medical Technician in District of Columbia

After graduating from high school diploma or receiving a GED, you must next complete an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting.  These programs offered through campus based and online Washington, DC medical technician schools must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Skills (ABHES).  No certification is as yet required within Washington DC, but having received certification is a definite plus in your job hunt.  Most employers recognize the certification offered by the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Board of Registry as adequate.  Some require receiving basic life support (BLS) certification.  You should be able to complete education and examination within two years.
