Some of the largest issues changing the face of medical documentation are the onset of speech recognition technology and electronic medical records. Recent studies have indicated that about 22% of all physicians are using some type of voice recognition platform for their dictations. While most physicians have yet to fully embrace VR software, the trend is definitely headed in that direction; so MTs should learn how to embrace this software and use it to their financial benefit.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, about 34% of office-based physicians are currently use some type of electronic health record system, while only 11.8% of physicians reported that their system met basic requirements and just 3.8% of physicians reported using a fully-functional system. Over the next few years, there will be a greater implementation of electronic health record system. Again, medical transcriptionists who can learn this new software are likely to be in greater demand and financially compensated for their knowledge.
The average MT salary in Washington is $36,100.
